JA Manafaru
A private island at the far end of the Maldives — where the crowds don't reach.
A place to stay on Manafaru Private Island
JA Manafaru occupies its own island in Haa Alif Atoll, the northernmost chain in the Maldives, roughly 319 km from Velana International Airport. That distance keeps the island genuinely uncrowded. Every villa and residence category has a private or infinity pool, and the rate includes free breakfast. The island runs seven restaurants, a PADI 5-Star dive centre operated by Best Dives Maldives, Calm Spa, and the CoolZone Kids' Club for children aged 3 to 12. All-inclusive plans are available for guests who prefer a single upfront cost.
Who this stay suits
A full-facility private-island stay with strong dining, on-site diving, and genuine separation from the busier atolls closer to Malé.
Best for
- Families wanting a supervised kids club and multi-bedroom residences
- Couples after a water villa with sunset views and an overwater bar
- Divers looking for a dedicated PADI 5-Star centre on site
- Anyone who wants an all-inclusive option in the Maldives
Less suited to
- Travellers on a tight schedule — the journey is long
- Budget-conscious travellers; entry-level villas start above USD 1,000 per night
Northernmost island, uncrowded waters
Haa Alif Atoll sits far above the tourist-heavy central atolls. The reef here sees fewer boats. Guests can reach the water directly from the beach or from a water villa's steps — no transfers to a dive site required.
Seven restaurants, one island
Kakuni handles the daily international buffet and themed dinner nights. White Orchid goes overwater for Asian and modern Japanese, with a Teppanyaki experience. Ocean Grill is beachfront, focused on locally caught fish and lobster. The Cellar — a wine-cellar dining room 2.5 metres below sea level — takes private tastings and fine-dining bookings. Andiamo runs Mediterranean food poolside through the afternoon. Veli Bar and Infinity Bar cover cocktails at sunset and poolside.
Water villas with private pools
The Sunrise and Sunset Water Villas each measure 135 m² and sit directly over the lagoon with private infinity pools on the deck. Sunset villas add glass floor panels and overwater hammocks. Both categories sleep up to three.
Calm Spa and the island's wellness offer
Calm Spa runs Eminence treatments alongside traditional Maldivian massages. Group yoga sessions are included in most villa rates. A fitness centre is on the island, and the wider schedule covers wellness classes.
CoolZone Kids' Club
The kids club runs daily supervised indoor and outdoor activities for children aged 3 to 12, with its own pool and playground. Access is included in villa rates, making longer stays with young children workable without extra daily fees.
Diving and water sports
Best Dives Maldives runs the PADI 5-Star dive centre on site. Non-motorised water sports including snorkelling gear come with most villa rates. Windsurfing, paddleboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, and kite surfing are also available on the island.

“Exceptional value for money; experience close to some of the top decile resorts but significantly cheaper — probably due to the distance from Male.”
“Our 'personal butler' wasn't the best, poor communication style, not a personalized experience at all... we didn't feel special but more like a burden.”
“What really sets it apart, from the manager Roberto and down, is the absolutely phenomenal team, each of whom went out of their way, constantly, to ensure we had the absolute best time.”
“First time in our life we had no hesitation in saying that this place is heaven on earth.”
“We were surprised by revised menus that unfortunately included significant reductions in the wine category. Had we continued our favourite wines, we would have incurred additional costs of approximately $1500.”
